Homework

Weekly Calendar

At the beginning of each week, your fifth grader will bring home a calendar. This will list assignments, homework, events, and important notes. Please review the Weekly Calendar with your child on Monday evening.

Fifth grade will not be assigning regular weekly homework this year. Instead, students who fall behind in their daily classwork or do not use their time productively, should finish their incomplete classwork at home.

We still want students to be reading nightly. Students should read 20 or more minutes per night at home. This is in addition to any reading we do during the school day. Books should be at their appropriate reading level.

In my class, there will be two book reviews assigned each month based on the genres of the month.

Occasionally, we will assign long-term projects. These projects will always include comprehensive instructions, a timeline or calendar, and are usually due a one to four weeks after they are assigned.

Online Resources

  • Google Drive

    • All PPS students have a Google Drive that they can use for slideshows, typing, and other projects.

  • TypingClub

    • Every student has an account which they should use to practice their typing skills. Log in information will come home soon. If students are not at grade level in typing, they should be practicing each week to improve their skills. The fifth grade goal is 25 WPM with 80% accuracy.

  • Freckle

    • Our school is in the process in obtaining a new math program for online support. (IXL is being replaced at FP.) Account information coming home soon!

Extra Support/Practice

If your child needs more practice to master a particular skill or would benefit from challenges, use the above online resources.

If you have any questions about homework, please ask your student and consult the weekly calendar first, then do not hesitate to contact me to discuss it. Thank you for being my partner in your child’s learning!
